Beautiful Typeface

Here’s an elegant typeface by Jordan Metcalf, a South African designer.  I love the designer’s use of the shapes and gradients.

Things Real People Don’t Say About Advertising

mocking advertisers

Stumbled upon this blog, today, that pokes fun at advertising. The Jan. 12 entry made me think about “The Fold.” Do people really believe in this imaginary line?  Is there statistical evidence that supports the idea?

A quick google search produced this article. Worth considering, I suppose.

Rustic Bread

An easy, mostly fool-proof, delicious bread recipe.

Ingrdients:

3 cups white enriched flour
1 1/2 cups fresh water, warmed to 75 F
1 tsp Kosher or sea salt
1/4 teaspoon active yeast

cornflour or additional flour for dusting dough and cloth

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add water and pull it all together.
  3. Oil sides of the bowl, cover, and let rise at least 12 hours.
  4. Place dough on floured surface.  Fold into thirds (on itself), twice.
  5. Spread cornmeal on towel.  Place dough on cornmeal, seam side down.  Sprinkle flour (or more cornmeal) on top.
  6. Loosely fold up towel to cover dough and let rest 1-2 hours.  (Dough should double in size, indentations will not rebound).
  7. Preheat oven at 500º F with heavy pot and lid inside.
  8. Plop dough in dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove lid and bake for 20 minutes more, or until golden brown.
  10. Cool on rack before serving.

Photoshop Sorcery

Cleaning up images has never been easier…

Check out the abilities of the Content-Aware Fill function.  I so wish this is not an elaborate April Fool’s Day prank.

Update (May 7, 2010):
No, the video is not a prank.  I attended a presentation (May 6, 2010) with demos by Photoshop Product Manager, Zorana Gee, and one of the engineers, Ivan Belaunde, responsible for Content Aware Fill.  Do a google search for PatchMatch for an explanation of how the function (algorithm) works.

Skin Lounge logo

I’m happy to announce the website for Skin Lounge had launched, yesterday. Jennifer Clark, founder of Skin Lounge–and, also, a very sweet person–asked me to design her business card and brochure. Happy with my designs, she then asked that I create her website.

Congratulations to Jennifer Clark for starting her own business!
